Call For Innovation 2024

About TEXMiN

The Technology Innovation in Exploration & Mining (TEXMiN) Foundation has been established as a Section-8 company by The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India at the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad.

The goal of the TEXMiN Foundation is to enhance the efficiency and safety of mining operations through the integration of cutting-edge cyber-physical systems technology. This approach will not only lead to more sustainable mining practices but also provide a roadmap towards the next level of mining innovation known as Mining 4.0. The foundation, established with the support of the Indian government, also aims to drive change and progress within the industry by engaging the brightest minds and promoting research and development initiatives.

TEXMiN is aimed at

Developing modern and sophisticated exploration methods/ integrated techniques (Geophysical, Geological & Remote Sensing) for
      (i) Identifying new and potentially viable areas to mine by locating deep concealed deposits and minimizing exploration
(ii) Lower the cost of mineral exploration through pattern matching, predictive analytics, and computer vision systems.

Achieving 3S Mining (Safe, Smart, and Sustainable Mining leading to Mining 4.0) through operation & process optimization across the mining value chain by developing CPS based technologies for
       (i) Surveillance and Evacuation System for Underground Mine Safety
(ii) Low-cost integrated Monitoring Systems to Predict and Prevent Accidents/Disasters

TEXMiN has joined hands with various industry partners in the development and promotion of Digital Technologies in the Mining and Mineral sectors in helping the country succeed in the mission of Atmnirbharta. Against the above backdrop, TEXMiN Foundation, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad invites innovative, collaborative R&D proposals from Academic institutions, R&D organizations, and user industries on the problem areas addressing Smart, Sustainable & Safe Mining (3S Mining).

Frequently Asked Questions

The TEXMiN Foundation, established by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, aims to foster technological advancements in mining, particularly through integrating Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS). Its mission is to improve safety, efficiency, and sustainability in mining, leading to an innovation-driven Mining 4.0 sector.

Eligible applicants include academic institutions, R&D organizations, start-ups registered with DIPP, and established industries with relevant facilities and infrastructure in mining. These institutions bring diverse expertise essential for advancing Mining 4.0 and sustainable practices.

The focus areas include Mineral Exploration and 4S Mining (Safe, Smart, Sustainable, and Social Mining). Projects should address challenges in resource discovery, hazard mitigation, sustainable practices and smart mining technologies

TEXMiN encourages interdisciplinary collaboration to address mining challenges by promoting joint ventures and resource sharing among academia, industry, and research institutions. These partnerships facilitate knowledge exchange, innovation, and real-world application of research

TEXMiN provides funding in phases, tied to project milestones. This structure ensures systematic progress assessment and fund release based on achieved objectives. Grants cover costs such as personnel, equipment, and materials needed for project execution

Proposals should include objectives, technical feasibility, a project timeline, budget estimates, and a collaborative framework, if applicable. Proposals must demonstrate alignment with TEXMiN’s goals, focusing on Mining 4.0, sustainability, and safety advancements.

The TEXMiN Project Evaluation Committee (PEC) conducts quarterly monitoring of project milestones. Project investigators are required to submit progress reports and utilization certificates, ensuring transparency and alignment with set

The Apex Committee, composed of representatives from government, academia, and industry, oversees the strategic direction of TEXMiN’s projects, ensuring alignment with emerging industry needs. The committee is reconstituted every three years for updated oversight.

Yes, administrative expenses, such as general office and HR-related costs, are not covered under TEXMiN’s funding. All funding must be allocated toward research and development activities directly contributing to the project’s objectives.

Required documents include institutional endorsements, certificates from coordinators, detailed proposals, financial statements for applicable entities, and any relevant legal documents, such as registration certificates

The maximum funding available under TEXMiN is up to 2 crore INR. For projects requesting over 25 lakhs INR, it is mandatory to provide details of any existing intellectual property (IP), research papers, or technical know-how from the Project Investigator (PI), Co-PI, or Sub-Implementing Agencies. Additionally, projects seeking more than 50 lakhs INR must include a collaboration agreement or consent letter from industry partners to support the commercialization of the project’s outcomes.
